Fabian Dombrowski joined the Information Centre for Educational Media (IZBM) as a research fellow in 2023. He works and researches for the project ‘The Evolution of the Textbook’ (MWK) and the DFG-funded project ‘Digitisation and Cataloguing of historic Textbooks, Focussing on Religious Education and Construction of a Knowledge Base for Historical Education Research’. He previously worked on the DFG-funded project ‘OCR4all libraries’. He is primarily responsible for the application of digital methods that bring together infrastructure and research. He is also involved with technology and media that enable individuals and societies to gain and record knowledge.

Fabian Dombrowski studied Latin, European ethnology, and history, with a focus on digital history, at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He has also tutored at the same university, worked as an assistant for H-Soz-Kult and was involved in the establishment of the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology (BIT).

Research Interests

  • Digital methodologies for the humanities.
  • History of knowledge in the area of recording technology (e.g. card indexes, textbooks, databases) with a focus on process and materiality.
  • Theoretical work.
  • The history of theory.
