Katharina Baier
Katharina Baier studied Nordic philology, Medieval German languages and literature as well as pre- and early history at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel and at Bergen University in Norway. After completing her master’s degree in 2006 she worked as a lecturer and researcher in the Scandinavian Studies departments of Kiel and Freiburg Universities.
She joined the Georg Eckert Institute in July 2013 as the coordinator for the international collaborative research project ‘Teaching the Cold War - Memory Practices in the Classroom’. In 2016 Katharina Baier took over as coordinator of the Georg Arnhold Program, which promotes education for sustainable peace. As Coordinator for International Affairs Katharina Baier has also coordinated the GEI’s numerous fellowship programmes since 2019 and is the primary contact person for international guests and researchers. In 2014 she became deputy equal opportunities officer and equal opportunities officer in 2021. In 2020 she also had the role of diversity officer.
