In 2012 Dr. Phil. Wibke Westermeyer became the academic editor in the Academic Publications department. From 2011 to 2012 she was the academic officer to the director of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute, a position to which she returned in 2021.

She studied North American studies, German literature and political science at the University of Bonn and at Ohio University from 1993 to 1999. From 1999 to 2000 she worked as an instructor at the University of Tennessee, from 2000 to 2004 she was Assistant Professor in the North American Studies Program of Bonn University and from 2004 to 2008 at the Faculty of Economics, Law, and Social Sciences of Erfurt University. She gained her PhD from Bonn University in 2007 with the dissertation “The Black Body of Literature – Colorism in American Fiction”. From 2008 to 2010 she was managing director of the Institute for Tourism and Development.
