Research Award
Every two years the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) presents the Georg Eckert Research Award. The award honours excellence in academic work in the field of international educational media research, and will next be presented in 2024. It is presented for academic works in German or English which – topically or historically – relate to cultural, social, political or pedagogical aspects of textbooks and other educational media used in schools.
The award is endowed with a 5,000 EUR prize to cover academic costs, such as publication in the Georg Eckert Institute’s book series ‘Billdungsmedien’, workshops, conference costs or research travel. More than one work may be honoured if this is felt to be appropriate.
The Georg Eckert Research Award is given in recognition of outstanding monographs, doctoral theses or post-doctoral works such as habilitation theses, as well as for edited volumes (the editors are the recipients in the latter case). Candidates may put themselves forward or be nominated by others. Academic works in German or English will be considered for the prize and they may either be unpublished or not have gone to press before 1 January 2021.
Award for Young Academics
A special prize for young academics is awarded by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media for a final thesis (master’s thesis, /Staatsexamen/, doctoral thesis), and is worth 1,000 EUR. Bachelor’s dissertations cannot be entered. Submitted works should be accompanied by two expert opinions from specialists in the respective field. The certificate of the examination for which the work was submitted must not have been issued before 1 January 2021. The award winner will also be offered the opportunity to publish his or her work in an online (open access) publication.
