This Dossier originated within the framework of the project ‘Subjects for Democracy. Current Challenges and Opportunities in Democracy Education (DemoS)’ (Subjekte der Demokratie. Aktuelle Herausforderungen und Potenziale der Demokratiebildung in Deutschland) as part of the collaborative project Demokratiebildung in Deutschland (Democracy Education in Germany), financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) between September 2019 and February 2023, and conducted by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute and the German Youth Institute (DJI).

In more detail than was possible in the monograph published at the same time by Beltz-Juventa Verlag under the title Bildung und Demokratie. Empirische Perspektiven auf Kita und Schule (Empirical Perspectives on Kindergarten and School), it compiles the source material and a concise description of the sample for the research section on educational policy and legal foundations, curricula and textbooks produced by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute. The aim is, on the one hand, to make the quantitative and qualitative analyses of legal foundations, curricula and textbooks as comprehensible as possible and, on the other hand, to support subsequent research on the leading subjects of civic education.
