Dr Zrinka Štimac joined the GEI in 2013 and returned in 2024 after a brief interval away.She conducts research into dynamic interactions between social change, the reconfiguration of ideological landscapes and the associated media transformations. Her current research focuses on the analysis of interpretations of the world and of meaning, based on quantum technological developments and discourses that influence educational content, media and processes.

Dr Štimac’s academic career has provided her with broad international and interdisciplinary expertise in research and teaching. It has involved stays at the Leibniz University Hannover, Friedrich Schiller University Jena (for her doctorate), Bielefeld University and the Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University in Bischkek. She led numerous projects and cooperative ventures at the GEI between 2013 und 2023, which examined religious and ideological diversity in the education sector. She follows a transdisciplinary approach and integrates methods from the humanities and the natural and social sciences. Several of her projects have been recognised by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD).

She is currently the principal investigator in the project ‘New People, New Thinking? The Challenge of Quantum Technologies in Education’ (Neue Menschen, neues Denken? Quantentechnologie als Herausforderung für die Bildung), which is financed by zukunft.niedersachsen. The project will initially examine how selected stakeholders in education perceive the potential and challenges of quantum technology. The project team will then analyse the associated views of the world and humanity in analogue and digital educational media. In their work, the project team is looking ahead to a development that is seen as highly transformative, but is only hesitantly being taken up by society, and which is already recognisable in specific sources - particularly in digital formats and books for young people. The project will build upon the findings of the DFG project ‘Transnational Discourses on Education – Focus on Religion’, which normatively addressed the future didactic and media transformation of global educational landscapes.
