Alexandra Krebs

Dr Alexandra Krebs is a post-doctoral researcher in the Centre for Education and Digital Transformation at the PH Zurich, where she works on the ‘Decoding History in Digital Space’ project. She was a fellow in Digital History at the German Historical Institute in Washington D.C from 2022 to 2023 and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University
She successfully defended her dissertation ‘Geschichten im digitalen Raum. Historisches Lernen in der App in die Geschichte’ in 2023 and graduated summa cum laude from Paderborn University. In her dissertation she explored the use of the history app ‘App in die Geschichte’ and carried out an empirical examination of user behaviour. In addition to her research Dr Krebs also has wide-ranging experience in teacher training and in educational practice. She has worked as a lecturer for Latin and history and as a teacher and teacher trainer.
Dr Alexandra Krebs also investigates changes in historical learning processes resulting from the digital shift, particularly with regards to cooperation with educational institutions outside of schools, such as archives. She views digitalisation as an opportunity, but also as a challenge, as digital technology provides possibilities for innovative historical education but also bring risks for democracy such as an increase in populism through filter bubbles and echo chambers.
